Family Day (Dec)

On December 3rd we went to a Shriners appointment and we decided to make the most of it.  We went and walked around the Gateway Mall, ate at McDonalds and stopped by Build a Bear.  We all had a really good time.  At Shriners we found out that Kadence's curve progressed 14 degrees which caught us a little off guard.  The dr said we could expect it to get worse between expansions because as she grows her back isn't able to extend like it should.  That makes sense but I think he was even a little shocked to see how much she had progressed in only a few months.  He wanted her in for an expansion surgery in January, but the soonest they could get us in was February 10th.  Compared to the first date they gave us of March 30th, this seemed like a huge improvement.  They had to squish her in no matter when so they had to find a "lighter" surgery day to throw her in.  The doctor is fine with February, but not anything later so we're all happy about it.  It's crazy that in a month we will start something that will soon be so routine to us.  I'm anxious because it's unknown currently but I'm sure we'll get the hang of it quick just like the castings.  We were told that we should plan for an overnight stay but if she does really well then they may let us leave the same day.  That's the thing, nobody knows what to expect because she'll be the first getting an expansion.  We're going to stay in Salt Lake that night either way because I'm sure it would be a late discharge if we were discharged and a 2 hour drive home doesn't seem like something any of us would want to do after a long day.  Especially Kadence because she'll be hurting.  Plus we can be close to the hospital if anything becomes worrisome.  It was a good appointment and a good day!

The girls have gotten a Christmas themed animal each year from build a bear for a few years and they record "Merry Chirstmas" wishes to put in it.  It's so fun to listen to the way their voices have changed over the years. This year they chose to make "dancer" one of Santas reindeer.  They picked a cute little dress for dancer as well.

They had some $5 clearance stuffed animals and Shelby was so excited to see they had a hippo with pink on it.  We waited until we paid for dancer and she still didn't ask for us to buy it for her which made me so excited.  I've really tried to teach my girls not to get the "gimmies" and it's been proven to work even in very tempting situations.  Because she didn't ask we let the girls each pick a stuffed animal.  Kadence picked a bunny and named it Sunset and Shelby named her hippo Surprise.
The lady working insisted I took their picture in front of the display opposed to the above picture.  I obliged but I still like the first picture more.
