I had decided a very long time ago that we would go to Salt Lake a day before Kadence's surgery. There were a few reasons. It would mean we wouldn't have the 2 hour drive the morning of Kadence's surgery and it also meant we could try to have one last day of fun outside of a hospital. David donated plasma so that we could save souvenir money for our vacation. He also did enough that we could buy a zoo membership so that we'd have something fun to do as a family. We figured going to the zoo would be perfect and would give Kadence a chance to go before listening to all of Shelby's stories of going. We figure the zoo is only about 10 mins away from Shriners so we can take her for an hour here and there. Before the zoo we went and picked up fleece from a friend which was so sweet of her, grabbed some lunch and checked into the Ronald McDonald House.
The girls are on the carousel and in this picture, they are just in the background and on the left. I don't know why I couldn't manage to get a better picture.
We saw some Grizzly Bears fighting. It started as playing but then turned into less fun for one of the bears.
Kadence's favorite!!
We didn't have a lot of time to spend at the zoo because Shriners had called and asked if we would mind stopping in to get Kadence sized for her wheelchair and walker. They didn't know which size would be best and usually do it the day of surgery. This way she wouldn't have to do it while in a ton of pain and made it a lot easier. He then was able to answer a lot of our questions and explain what to expect pretty well. The girls got Barbies as we walked in, snapped a picture by Mike and Sulley and then Kadence's physical therapist gave her a bear from Build a Bear as well. SPOILED!
After Shriners we went off to Shelbys surprise. Shelby actually managed to keep it a secret which is surprising! We made Kadence cover her eyes...
The girls both added a heart with a lot of love and wishes...
I surprised Shelby and told her that we would get her an animal to keep her company on surgery day while she was away too. I was thinking she was going to get Ariels pet with the whole outfit but instead she picked a tiny already build bunny that was A LOT cheaper than I expected. She got 3 outfits, a bed and a car for hers. Kadence got pumpkin, her outfit, a leash and a dog bed. I still made it out paying less than I had planned for which was nice.
We wanted to go eat as a family because it's one of our favorite things and just isn't the same in the hospital. We decided on Cheesecake Factory considering we only eat there when we go to Vegas.
We had to splurge and each get dessert of course. Kadence chose ice cream...
Shelby chose Strawberry Shortcake off the adult dessert menu and it was HUGE...
We then hurried off to Uncle Brians where he gave us all Priesthood blessings. Grandma and Grandpa Joy came up to listen and Grandpa Joy stood in on the blessings. It is something my girls looked forward to all week and they were so grateful. I think it really put their minds at ease. I know it did mine! I am so blessed to have so many great Priesthood holders in my life. David got a blessing as well and anointed for most of our blessings. Then we were off to the Ronald McDonald House to "sleep". I was doing pretty good emotionally until the drive back to Salt Lake. Then I felt like a total wreck on the inside but had to hold it together on the outside for my girls. It was nice to all sleep under one roof for the last night and we all had a great day. I think I heard about 50 times "This is the best day ever!"
