The day finally arrived, it was time to go get Kaences new brace. She was so excited and her sister was super excited for her. We usually only have to wait 2-3 week, not 6 weeks so we were READY! As we walked in I was almost brought to tears. There were Christmas trees with unwrapped new toys under it. Before even checking in someone told the girls that they could pick out anything they wanted and could get for any siblings too. I made the girls wait until we were checked in and then we went on the hunt for the perfect prize. It absolutely amazes me that people are kind enough to donate and it just warms my heart. Plus the excitement of those working a the hospital is great too. Everyone makes sure you have picked out a prize...or two or three. Kadence picked a Christmas blanket and Shelby picked a beanie baby that has a birthday cake that says January on it and she named it Birthday Cake. (Her birthday is in January) Daddy took the blanket to the car and grabbed a blanket for Shelby too and came back with a bear for Kadence. Its a St Patricks day beanie baby that she named Clover. Heres a blurry picture of them in the office with their bears.
The brace was different this time which I was anxious about, but after seeing it on her I think this will be perfect. Past braces have had a hole in the side for her ribs that poke out. Kadence has mentioned from time to time that it hurts. This hole is gone now. Kadences sternum is also being deformed by the pressure from the braces/casts so they had the brace come up to a different point this time. The lowest part has been shoving all her organs out to where she has a huge pooch under the brace. They molded this part differently as well to hopefully allow the pooch to go away. All these tweaks seem like they will be fabulous for Kadence. When we went to get xrays Kadence just walked straight in without looking back. This is the first time she has had an xray by herself before. (well except as an infant) It was a little tough for me to watch the door close behind her and know she really is THAT big now. We originally were going to have to wait 2 1/2 hours between our orthotic and our orthopedic appointment. Our orthotic guy had an out of state last minute fly in and couldn't see us after 2 1/2 hours so he had our orthopedist squeeze us in. It was fabulous! We even got the room Kadence wanted. She loves this room because it has a heat sensitive board that changes from black to green with the heat of your hands. Instead of playing with it she decided to play with this toy instead.
We were able to see her xray and it was pretty much the same as last time. She was at 55.5 degrees IN brace which is pretty good. The only difference is that her head is more aligned with her trunk. Which means her head isn't off to the side of her center anymore....at least in this brace. We planned on being at the hospital for about 5 hours, eating at City Creek and seeing the lights at temple square but everything was done and we were out in 2 1/2 hours which is unheard of. We decided to come home and go to Christmas Village instead. We had already mentioned McDonalds to the girls and they ate it on the new Christmas blanket they got.
We lounged around at home until dinner time when we used a gift certificate to the Pizzeria a friend gave us for Christmas. (Thanks!) I hadn't planned anything on our menu because I didn't think we would be home. I'm so thankful we had a gift certificate and I didn't have to cook. After dinner it was off to Christmas Village. I had told the girls we were going to see Christmas lights and I don't know what Shelby had in mind but when we were walking to the lights she said "WOW, thats a lot of lights up there, maybe we should go see them." I told her thats where we were going and she was thrilled to say the least. The girls haven't ever gotten to sit on Santas lap there before because the line is too long or it is too cold. This year they got to and they were thrilled.

After Christmas Village we have a new tradition of going to Starbucks for white chocolate hot chocolate with peppermint in it. I luckily had a $10 gift card so it was pretty cheap. We had a great time as a family.
**Side note**
Tonight as we knelt to pray, Kadence volunteered. There were a few moments that were just so precious "Thank you so much for the doctors who took time to make me my brace......Please bless Emilies two sisters will be happy......Please bless Emilies mom and dad won't be sad...." I seriously had to hurry and wipe my tears before the prayer ended. She is such a sweet girl who never complains, is happy with everything, always calls herself "lucky" and cares so much about others.
