Leader In Me Red Carpet Event

Last week Shelby got an invitation in the mail to a special red carpet event at her school to celebrate the students who have shown they are outstanding leaders.  Their school has been doing the Leader in Me program where they learn the 7 habits of highly effective people and the students are encouraged to become leaders by following the habits.  It is amazing how well the students really understand the habits and even more amazing to hear teachers using the habits in their daily interactions with students.  For example "Wow, thank you for being so proactive."  Shelby was so excited and was hoping there would really be a red carpet.  I assumed there would be because the invitation asked you to dress your best, requested you didn't bring children under 5 years old and said it would have refreshments.  This seemed more than a normal award ceremony.  Shelby of course posed for pictures...
Kadence didn't get an invitation but she was such a great support for her sister...
Here is the red carpet!  They had it lined with lights and it led the students up to the stage.  There is a harp off to the left that played while the students names were read...
Grandma and Grandpa Joy drove all the way up to support Shelby which was so nice of them.  They even gave each girl a new necklace AND let me have a picture taken with them....

Principal Grunig isn't texting, he's recording the students walk to the stage led by a bagpiper...

Shelby was last in her class and was trying so hard to be patient...
Shaking Mrs Cook and Principal Grunigs hand...

Shelby wanted a picture with Mrs Cook and so she had to go find her in her classroom...
We went to Buffalo Wild Wings to celebrate...

We're so proud of both of our girls and are so happy with the way they behave at school.  Kadence may not have gotten recognized tonight, but after observing her class the past few days I know she is a great student and leader.  I explained to her that they can only choose so many names and this year wasn't her year.  She was really good about it and was proud of her sister and her best friend Chloe!  I recorded what was said about Shelby as she walked across the stage and this is what was said of Shelby:
"Shelby Joy leader in exceptional 7 habit skills.  Shelby seeks to understand.  She provided loving support for her family during her sisters surgery and donated her own hair to locks of love."  This is also coming from the teacher who wrote the nicest letter to Shelby that I have ever read.  I don't remember if I've posted it or not, so here it is:
